What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic has been around since the late 1800’s and is one of the largest primary-contact health care professions in Ontario. Chiropractors use hands-on non-invasive manual techniques to diagnose, treat and help prevent conditions affecting the neuromuscular skeletal system (nerves, muscles, bones and joint).

About

Dr. Amanda Stacey Throughout my life I have always felt a strong desire to help people, and have always enjoyed playing an active role in my community. My decision to pursue a career in the healthcare field was not a difficult one. I graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Human Kinetics in 2010, and shortly thereafter went on to pursue my Doctor of Chiropractic Degree at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in Toronto, completing my studies in 2014. I have experience treating chronic pain, sports injuries, headaches, neck and back pain, plantar fasciitis, arthritis symptoms, carpal tunnel syndrome, and tennis elbow, among other things. I’m a proud member of the Ontario Chiropractic Association, Canadian Chiropractic Association, the College of Chiropractors of Ontario, and the Canadian Chiropractic Protective Association. I am also a certified acupuncture provider.

Professional Philosophy

During my time at CMCC, I completed my clinical internship at St. Michael’s hospital, working in collaboration with the hospital’s family healthcare team. I credit this experience with helping me to learn the value of collaboration between healthcare professions for providing the best patient care possible. I strongly believe that working as an interconnected team of healthcare professionals helps to improve the quality and continuity of patient care. Patient care is my top priority. I believe in treating health and wellness issues at their source, not merely aiming to lessen the symptoms. I feel it is important to educate patients on their conditions and teach them self care strategies and techniques to help them manage their pain and prevent recurrence. I am committed to helping my patients feel better and stay better.

What are concussions?

ConcussionsA concussion is a type of brain injury caused by a blow, or jolt to the head or neck. It is a serious form of head trauma and symptoms may take time to show. This makes it difficult to determine when a concussion has occurred and determine when it has fully resolved. This makes decisions such as when to return to learn and play safely challenging. For this reason there is a growing emphasis on objective baseline testing protocols, which can be used to track a patient’s recovery and serve as tangible measurements for safe return to play readiness. By measuring an individuals “normal” level of function (through baseline tests), healthcare providers can better gauge the level of impairment post injury and make more informed decisions in regards to when it is safe for an individual to return to activity.

Services

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractors are extensively trained to diagnose, explain, treat and help prevent problems with the musculoskeletal system and the associated neurological system. They promote holistic healing to encourage health and wellness.

Chiropractic treatment deals with the manipulation of the musculoskeletal system to relieve pain and improve joint movement and function. Additionally, treatment often includes exercise, soft tissue therapy, patient education, modalities such as laser or ultrasound treatment, and rehabilitation.

acupuncture

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a pain-reducing treatment that has its roots in ancient Chinese medicine. The treatment involves inserting needles into the skin at certain points of the body to relieve pain and encourage natural healing. The needles are left in place for a period of 15 – 30 minutes and then removed. The entire acupuncture treatment is done without the use of pharmaceuticals.

Orthotics

Orthotics

Custom orthotics are prescribed custom shoe inserts, much like insoles, designed to bring the foot and ankle into alignment. Orthotics are made from molds of the patient’s foot in order to target and treat problems specific to the patient. Orthotics help relieve foot, leg, knee and back pain by reducing unwanted stress to bones and muscles during movements associated walking and running.

Compression Stockings

Compression Stockings

Compression stockings are prescribed medical hosiery, which are worn to help promote better circulation and blood flow in the legs. They can help control and relieve swelling, varicosities (swelling of the veins), leg fatigue and other leg conditions.
